Basic Tips for Backups, Data Safety - Avoiding Data Recovery

Backup, backup, backup!

If there is one thing I have 20 years learned in and 12,000 data recoveries, is that not everyone back up their data sometimes. Computers may be stupid but they know if you have your data backed up have not - because that's when they break. Do not deceive your computer - until new data back daily.

It isimportant that you keep two alternating backup and reserve an additional piece of media. This means have labeled a disk (or tape, or thumb drive) "Even" (for even-numbered days, one labeled "odd" and one reserve. At some point something will go wrong with a backup. For example, if an error occurs a "straight" days, and you put in your "odd" backup, you canRuin both. Instead, put in the spare wheel. If there is a problem, you have your extra backup (saved from the day before yesterday) and not wasted all your hard work. If there is no problem, and it was only a temporary error, then set your time back on the shelf, you format the "straight", and go with your backup.

What is the best thing to make a backup copyon?

There are a variety of ways to secure your data [http://www.datarecoveryworldwide.com/ data] _safety_products.html. Most new computers come with CD-R or CD-RW drives. Most PCs still come with floppy drives (and you can one for a Mac). There are Zip drives, tape drives, USB "thumb" drives, and more. My current favorites are external Firewire or USB 2Drives and CD-R for full backups, and USB flash drives for smaller amounts of data.

There are quite a few external hard drives on the market today, and if you have a computer that is less than three years old, you probably have the ports for hooking this up you are usually with backup software, and to come. As I write this, the drives are usually under $ 200. Onceinstalled, it's a good idea, these drives can save when you save. In this way, power spike or other event that the environment can destroy data on your hard drive is unlikely to be a damage to the hard disk external hard drive.

For CD-RW drives, I recommend using CD-R media only, as it simply to a previous backup with a CD-RW disk to be overwritten. This is a good form of protection for large quantitiesData (they hold more than 650 MB), and each plate is cheap. But you can sit with a bunch of plastic discs. That is why I use them usually only for large backups. Heat, bending, and scratching are the enemies of the CD drives. Incidentally, while it is hard to do, Recovery CD-ROM, it is possible to recover CDs that are damaged.

Zip drives in sizes from 100 MB to 750 MB and costs are from $ 60 to $ 200, while additional disks cost about $ 10 each. These aresensitive to dust, shock, too much heat, and large magnets. Remember, alternative backups with zip disks as a corrupt Zip drive, a Zip drive can be damaged. Zip Disk Recovery is possible, but tend to be less successful than other media recovered.

Floppy not hold very well (1.4 MB) free, but a few cents, and are comfortable to wear. Almost all PCs have them, and not a few Macs do. Floppy disks are sensitive to heat, magnetic fields, dust, bending and other coarseHandling.

Tape drives should be used data only for very large amounts. They are relatively expensive and slow. They are very large networks for the after-hours backups, but they are easily damaged. Tape recovery is difficult and expensive.

I am an unabashed fan of USB flash drives! These are actually memory stick with USB connector at the end, such as portable hard drives. They are robust - I accidentally leave to go through the wash in my shirt pocket. Afterdried out, it still had my data on (do not try this at home)! Although we have been implementing successful USB data recovery, in this case it was not necessary! They come in sizes of 64 MB more than 2 GB. They can be uploaded and used on PCs and Macs without reformatting. You can buy one on a local computer or electronics store for $ 35 - $ 150

What is the alternative to backing up your data? Well, like any journey, finally fails, it is expensive dataor loss of data, which can be devastating-recovery

Be sure. Back up your data.
